Earlier this week we picked up a PUBG squad, made up entirely from Estonian players, to fill the void newly created by our inclusion in the game. Whilst Estonia may seem like a left-field choice to the untrained eye, the story behind it is quite a simple one.
The birth of Rize in 2009 began with the Counter-Strike: Source team that included two Estonian players; Kr1zz (now xKriss) and imG (now Blenderino). The pair remained in the club for many years, taking on community roles as we established teams in other games. xKriss went on to play for Wortex for their CS:GO team and had some success in his home country for that game, namely winning TTU Fall 2014.
Fast forward to 2017 and xKriss' vast experience with DayZ and it's Battle Royale mod, made PUBG a perfect fit for the player. Calling on other Estonian players with the similar ability the team was ready to endure a baptism of fire, with the PUBG Online Showdown's 3-game format the perfect test.
Main: xKriss - Cudtastic - Lebong - CloudTail
Subs: Rayzi - Signej - zulu4_junker
In their first competitive challenge, the team managed to gain 25pts from a 10th, 7th and 3rd placings - launching them to Top 30 in the leaderboards at the first time of asking and showing quite an obvious arc of improvement across the trio of games.
Since the explosion of Battle Royale games like H1Z1 King of the Kill and now Player Unknown's Battlegrounds, it was hard to ignore the impact that the games can have on the competitive circuits. With our active community also deeply fixated by the addictive nature and buzz from the last man standing game mode, it isn't hard to see why.
We're looking forward to the future of the team and their short-term goal of climbing the PUBG Online Leaderboards!
